I think the rebellion was a justifiable choice, but it wasn't made entirely for the right reasons. If they'd been more subtle I bet they could have placated Aerys long enough to get Rhaegar installed as a crown prince or regent, transitioning into king once Aerys passed away. Maybe they could have even got Jon Snow on the throne eventually. That seems like a better outcome than putting Robert and the Lannisters in power.

It's kinda genius. You think he's gonna be the main bad guy cos he tried to kill a child. Then you find out that really is kinda the only blight on Jaime (other the later seasons and D&D) and he's alot more heroic than we think in an abusive, twisted relationship with the real nasty V Cersei. That's what D&D never understood. Jaime is complex, he's not completely moral or immoral, but he's simply not the antagonist of the story.

Oh my god, for someone who says he takes a lot of history into account, Martin's view of the middle ages is so tilted. Historians didn't stop calling the middle ages the dark ages because they didn't want to offend someone. It was done because the middle ages weren't that dark time of misery and decline that he describes here. It was a lush worked with a lot of culture und progression. The reason we see is as this dark time is do to the time of the renaissance, when people glorified the roman time and shat on the middle ages and that kind of stuck.
